Eco-Friendly Work Spaces
As more and more customers seek to do business specifically with environmental conscious companies, it seems that ‘‘Going green’’ is no trend, but rather a must for business today to help the cause, while developing a positive reputation.
Although, in some instances you won’t see savings right away, for the most part one of biggest benefits of going green is cutting costs, specifically when it comes to energy consumption. However, depending on your business, your efficiency could also cut your utility costs, water, waste and paper usage, all of which could out weight upfront costs.
But besides changes that can be made from within, significant updates such as how buildings are designed, constructed, maintained and operated can be measured using a system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council known as LEED or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. This internationally recognized green building certification helps building owners and operations identify and implement practical solutions.
Using a system that is categorized into five basic areas, from Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, to Materials and Resources and indoor environmental quality, buildings are awarded points and then granted a certain level of certification from Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum.
As convention centers become Eco-centers, and meeting spaces in luxury hotels compete to top each other’s sustainability achievements, one thing is certain, those who aren’t looking to use energy efficient technology in their meeting spaces or still not considering their carbon footprint left with constant air travel, are being left behind in the past. What changes big or small can you implement right away?
