It has been just over a year since the release of the Crestron Mercury. Since then, it has become one of the 'must-have' pieces of technology for all conference rooms and office spaces. In 2018 alone, it has been awarded over fifteen awards, crowning it as the king of video conferencing and office tech.
The name Crestron is heard often in audiovisual and conference solutions circles, but what exactly is the Crestron Mercury?
The Mercury is an all-in-one meeting console which combines previously independent conferencing solutions. In our day and age, a video conference must meet certain standards. The software has to be user-friendly, wireless, and allow for unlimited participation and live-time collaboration.
This has allowed video meetings to become more streamlined and user-friendly. In the past, to have a seamless meeting, all the members had to use the same meeting software and be in the same place. Thanks to the Mercury, this is no longer the case. Now all you have to do is place the Mercury in your conference, hook it up with your existing hardware, and enjoy its practicality and ease.
The sleek and unimposing frame of the Mercury cleverly hides its technological prowess. At first glance, it simply looks like a modern conference phone with a screen in place of the buttons. However, this screen is the control center for the Mercury’s multitude of features.
These features deserve more than a simple article, but we will try and condense them to give you a comprehensive overview of what this thing can do.
Firstly, the engineers at Crestron spent a lot of time incorporating high definition sound and microphones into the Mercury. There is nothing worse than not being able to hear some properly in a meeting and vice versa. Next, they wanted to make it easy to use with your preexisting video conferencing solution. This means if, for example, you are a fan of Zoom, you can keep using it with your Crestron Mercury.
With all these features, one would think that the Mercury was difficult to use. However, ease of use was the number one priority to the developers and Crestron. They have included Bluetooth connectivity which allows you or the other participants in the meeting to pair your cell phone for teleconferencing and control what is showing on the conference room monitor; and to share documents, notes or comments live, with any device. Additionally, it allows users to schedule meetings directly from the Mercury, which minimizes the need for external scheduling software.
Now you can clearly see why the Crestron Mercury is deserving of so many awards. To combine that amount of powerful features into its compact body is a remarkable feat.
Most recently, it won the Commercial Integrator Best Awards for video conferencing and telepresence solutions. We wish them a colossal congratulations for winning this highly coveted award.
This unprecedented array of solutions in one console has left many people thinking "what are they going to come up with next?" That is yet to be seen, but we are truly excited to see what they come up with next.
As with all video conferencing solutions, it is best to pair up your software with powerful hardware, such as HD video monitors, surround sound, and clever lighting.
